VEHICLE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

As India ranks No. 1 in the world in the figure of persons killed in road accidents, superseding China, the issue of safety on roads seems to be gaining importance. Experts feel that it’s time to act, not just to contemplate.
It is mandatory as per law that all the transport vehicles should have valid fitness certificate. Absence of certificate of fitness affects the validity of registration of vehicle apart from constituting an offence for violation of conditions of road permit attached to vehicle.

Presently the issuance of fitness certificate functions for transport vehicles is no more than an eye wash, serving no meaningful purpose, except rubber stamp compliance. In many parts the examiner is neither trained nor equipped for the functions of testing and certification. The systems, tools and knowledge that are required for inspection and testing simply do not exist.
There is a need to introduce effective vehicle fitness testing and certification as they pose the highest compromise in road safety and consequently the most danger to life and property.

We expect a more stringent Motor Vehicles Act, state-of-the-art fitness centers to check road worthiness of vehicles and safer road designs to contain the growing number of road deaths in the country.

“In the context of modernising the trucking sector” at a regular intervals checks on vehicles roadworthiness should be carried out. It is an essential component towards road safety and reduction in accident. If neglected vehicle and driver combine and create an environment of dangers on road. An unfit truck accelerates wear and tear of highway and road surfaces. Poor condition of suspension, axle and brakes, wheels and tyres, are the common future of unfit vehicles. Old-fashioned and poorly aerodynamic body design, unbalance load distribution,
etc.is common features in India that directly cause undue wear and tear of roads and direct compromise towards road safety.

An inspection on regular basis on every trip, pre and post–dispatch, accepted intervals ensures the roadworthiness and load safety of the vehicle it’s monitoring will effectively maintain compliance status.

IRSFM has designed Vehicle Assessment Process to evaluate performance of Seat belts, Mirrors, Glass and view Windscreen & wipers, Speedometer/tachographs/GPS, Horn, Driving & Steering control, Service brake, Pressure vacuum warning & exhaust brakes, driver’s accommodation, emissions, Road wheels and hubs Size and type & condition of tyres, bumper bars, side & under runners, spare wheel, carrier chassis, vehicle to trailer coupling Electrical equip & harness, oil and waste leaks, Fuel tanks & system exhaust, steering mechanism, suspension Axles, wheel bearings, transmission, brake systems and components, Reflectors and rear markings, Direction indicators and hazard warning lamps.Check for dangerous defects and carrying Brake performance
(roller brake & deceleration meter test). Checking service and parking brakes performances. A regular pre & post dispatch checks is also an essential component physical checks on fitment & working of important features.
